Snow Day!! {our kitties}

Our adorable kittens had a blast playing in the snow the other day. They were a little uncertain at first, but then just couldn't get enough of it!

Before I let them out... they were all staring out the window all morning.

And, when I opened the door to the shed to let them out, the boys stopped short.. a little timid...

Polly and Lily don't usually get to go outside.. so Polly wasn't sure what to do when I opened the door for them.

And the first thing those two did was bolt over and up a tree

Emily and Brian could not have hosted a more fabulous party to celebrate their wedding... For starters, the Frazier International History Museum is just awesome. Combine that with some stunning details and it's simply beautiful :) They had everything... great music, incredible food, an amazing cake, a chocolate fountain, a photo booth.... Everyone there was having an incredible time. Including us :)

Meet Kari! {our FABULOUS associate}

We are thrilled to introduce you to Kari, our fabulous new associate photographer!

Some time ago, Eric and I began thinking about adding an associate photographer, but we were so focused on life and building our business that we just put off pursuing the idea for a while. We kept it in the back of our minds, wondering when the right time would come and, of course, how to find the perfect person. And then Kari appeared :)

Kari is such a wonderful person, and we totally click. We have easily spent hours chatting about anything and everything on multiple occasions without even realizing so much time had passed. Combine this with her awesome photographic talent... I couldn't have asked God to send anyone better! While Kari has about 9 years of experience photographing weddings and portraits, she recently decided that running her own business wasn't the best choice for her at this time in her life. She emailed me out of the blue one day asking about a second shooter position with us. Since Eric and I always shoot together and don't have a need for someone else to shoot with us, I almost just said, "Sorry", and moved on. But, as always, God had bigger plans! Through email conversations, this idea of adding an associate came up, and we decided to meet for coffee and chat about it. The rest is history...

We are so excited for Kari to be a part of our team in 2010! We already have some awesome weddings lined up for her and look forward to adding more. And, as Kari lives in Frankfort, we are happy to have her as our main photographer for all of our Frankfort area portrait sessions.

Adding some of Kari's wonderful work to our website is on our to-do list, but in the meantime, feel free to check out her work on her own blog!

Christy and Rick|The Wedding!!

When I think of November, I think of brown grass, no leaves on the trees, and bundling up for cold weather. I still find it hard to believe that Christy and Rick's mid-November wedding was on as awesome of a day as it was. The sun was shining and it was cool... but not freezing cold :) Everyone got ready at the couple's gorgeous home in the Highlands, where we had a perfect outdoor setting for photos. Even Christy's adorable little dogs were able to take part in the fun since we were right there in their own backyard. Christy and Rick chose two incredible locations for their wedding: St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Louisville Boat Club. And the details at the reception were simply amazing! From the floral arrangements, to the cake, to the fireworks and the cashmere scarves handed out as favors... These two knew how to plan one fabulous celebration!

Erin and Brian|Engagement!! {project film}

As the entire photography industry seems to be giving up on using film, Eric recently decided we should think about adding it back into what we do. So, for a few of our fall sessions, we grabbed a few rolls of film and Eric had some fun the old-fashioned way of taking photos :) It's been so long since we used a camera that we couldn't immediately check our exposures on... I almost forgot what it was like to "wait for it"! Anyway, while I'm not one to argue that film or digital is better than the other, I can't help but say that they definitely offer a completely different look. I absolutely love when, after rescheduling a session more than once due to weather, we are blessed with an incredibly GORGEOUS day. It has happened before, and it happened again with Erin and Brian. The best part is... rescheduling led us to shoot in a different location that we had originally planned, and we loved it! When we finally had our perfect day, Eric and I drove to Cincinnati to meet up with Erin and Brian at Findlay Market... an awesome farmer's market that they visit often. It was perfect, because it was a part of their life and what they enjoy doing... and that's our ultimate goal for these fun sessions :) After Findlay Market, we went to the beautiful Ault Park. Have I mentioned how much we love finding incredible new places to shoot? LOVED Erin and Brian's choices for the day! Here are a few favorites from the afternoon... Enjoy!

It's All About Spreading the Love!

Justin and Mary Marantz are a fabulous husband-wife photography team in New Haven, Connecticut. Eric and I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting them on the coldest day EVER in the fall of 2008. While we were vacationing in New England, we were blessed to have them shoot some awesome winter portraits of us. The original idea was a fall session, but it was just WAAAAAY too cold!!! (Check 'em out here if you want!)

Anyway, if there's one thing Justin and Mary are FABULOUS at (besides being incredible photographers, of course!), it is how they "Spread the Love". The way that they continually make their clients and colleagues feel on a day to day basis is completely UN-ordinary... and truly remarkable. So, when we heard that the Marantz's were touring the country and putting on a "Spread the Love" workshop, we didn't even think twice about signing up. Yesterday, we drove to Nashville to be a part of this awesome event, and it was 110% worth it.

Customer service today seems to have such a negative connotation to it. The customer service people are the ones you talk to when you want to complain. It seems as though their sole purpose is to fix mistakes and try to satisfy unhappy customers. I just finished reading a great book called "Raving Fans" which ties in perfectly to the message of the "Spread the Love" workshop... and we have decided that satisfied customers just aren't good enough for us. Our heads are overflowing with ideas right now as we try to sort through all the fabulous information we have gained. Our biggest goal for 2010 is to go above and beyond giving our clients what they expect and truly giving them an experience they'll love!!!

Here's to the best year yet! :)

Despite the clouds gathering and threatening rain, it turned out to be an absolutely perfect day for an outdoor wedding! They were married at the Louisville Visual Art Center (aka the Water Tower). I cannot put into words how incredible of a time we had with JoBeth and Jeremie. We had gorgeous lighting, an awesome location, and a wonderfully photogenic couple who truly knows how to have a good time. For instance.... we are walking around in the middle of what I would call "not the best part of town", and we see a random shopping cart. I think to myself, we could have some fun with that! And before I know it, the two of them are brainstorming what to do with it... and then did it :)

You may have noticed the lack of wedding posts lately... we have had so many engagement shoots this summer! So I'm going to try to catch up on posting our favorite weddings in the next few weeks :) Megan and Patrick's wedding was simply fabulous. And such a full day! We started early with all the girls at the Lexington Downtown Hotel as Ana Crane Simpson worked her magic with hair and makeup. Once everyone was ready, we headed to the beautiful First United Methodist Church where they would be married. We took Megan and Patrick to a side courtyard to photograph their "First Look" which was so sweet. These two are such a fun and gorgeous couple! I can't get enough of them!

Emily and Brian are fabulous. We had the best time getting to know them on their engagement shoot the other day. It's always great when there is a continual conversation during the session :) A few days before, Eric and I scoped out a couple great spots in Smoketown which had the industrial/urban feel that Emily and Brian wanted (and which we always think is fun!). Most people would call to reschedule a session due to rain... But Jaime and Chris decided to roll with it and we loved it! Luckily, it wasn't pouring, but there was a light rain coming down a good portion of the time... enough to warrant the use of Jaime's adorable yellow umbrella. You may remember Shannon and Craig's engagement photos a few months ago... We were so excited to shoot their wedding, and were glad to have it available on such short notice! The Couture Closet|Bridal Shoot!!

The ultra-fabulous girls at the Couture Closet in LaGrange recently asked us to do a shoot for them, and we were excited to! Lauren and Tera have the most gorgeous bridal gowns around, so I am always thrilled when one of our brides says that's where she found her dress. Anyway, they asked two lovely girls to come model a few dresses for us as we used historic Main Street in LaGrange as our location. Amelia and Marilyn are both beautiful and were absolutely a joy to work with! Their hair and makeup was done by the talented Amy and Erica at Beauty First. Whitney and Chris are one of the most adorable couples EVER. We had such a great time hanging out and shooting their engagement photos... We went to the Southern Baptist Seminary here in Louisville, where Chris is a student and where he proposed to Whitney just a few short months ago. We love when the location for a couple's engagement session has a significant meaning in their lives. These two are so obviously head-over-heels for each other and are so cute to watch interact. We had no trouble getting shots of Whitney with a huge smile on her face, or of them looking so lovingly at each other, because it was constant!

Our Life|We Just Bought a House!!

In case you have been wondering where we disappeared to... Eric and I just bought our first home! The process has completely consumed my time and energy for about two months, but it was all worth it when we were handed the keys to our new place on June 3rd. We are so excited! We bought a cute old farmhouse that was built in 1912, on 5 acres, complete with a small orchard. We have so many ideas of what to do with the house, and we'll be sure to keep you updated on any big projects :) But for now, here's a few photos of the new place...

By the way, we are trying to come up with a name for our new little farm. We'd love to know your ideas!

We met Shannon and Craig just last week, and are so excited about their wedding this coming Saturday. They are one of the couples who had the unfortunate experience of their photographer Ramon Rodriguez run off on them at the last moment. Luckily, Eric and I had the date open, and feel so blessed to have the experience of knowing and photographing them. We did a short engagement session at St. James Square this past weekend, and loved getting to know them a little better before the big day. They are so fun, and always full of smiles! We had such a fabulous time with Megan and Patrick at their engagement session the other day! Patrick proposed to Megan at the beautiful Bernheim Forest, so we decided it would be a perfect place to start for their session. Then, we headed down to the Highlands for some great coffee and music at Heine Brothers Coffee, which was a perfect fit because the couple loves to drink coffee together. Megan and Patrick are so much fun to be around, always energetic and having a great time! We can't wait for the big day in July!

Michelle and JC|the Wedding!!

Last Saturday, the day of Thunder over Louisville, we had an absolutely PERFECT day for Michelle and JC's gorgeous wedding! We love this couple... they are so fun and super cute together! Before the ceremony, we went to Central Park and St. James Square for some fabulous shots of Michelle and JC and their bridal party, just a few blocks away from where they were married at the beautiful St. Louis Bertrand church. The reception was at Mellwood Art Center, where we were all able to step out on the balcony to watch the huge fireworks show. It was a great ending to a perfect day!

Congratulations, Michelle and JC! You both looked stunning and we had the time of our lives! Thanks so much for asking us to be there to capture your perfect day!!

Lauryn|Senior Portraits!

Meet Lauryn, my little sister. Though she's not that little anymore :) I cannot believe she is graduating this spring! We finally had a pretty day to go to our barn and take a few photos of her for her graduation announcements. Our Life|Kitties!

Last Fall, Eric found three of the most adorable kittens we've ever seen... alone and without their mommy. They were only about 2 1/2 weeks old, so we spent a few weeks bottle feeding them. Talk about getting attached quick! Originally, I was stubborn and said he could only bring them home if he promised we would find them homes by the time they could eat dry food. But then I couldn't let them go :) It's so cute, because they totally think we are Mom and Dad... they always want to be held and cuddled and will cry to be picked up. Even at 5 months old! Anyway... They were having fun down in the trees the other day, so I snapped a few shots. By looking at them, you'd never know they are brother and sisters... they are all so different! But each one is as lovable as can be :)

Baby Myles|Newborn Session!

Sarah and Billy, one of our 2007 couples, recently welcomed their first child into the world. He is adorable! I think babies are cute anyway, but little Myles is super super cute :) And he is such a happy little baby! He was fighting to stay awake the entire time I was there... Once again, I had a blast with Billy and Sarah, and am so excited to share a few of my favorites of their new little addition!

WPPI Las Vegas|The Strip!

So, maybe the title having "WPPI" in it is misleading... except for the fact that it's the only reason we were even in Las Vegas :) Anyway, the last day of our trip we finally got out to take some photos of the famous "Las Vegas Strip". These places are insanely HUGE. It's unreal. Everything looks so close, because it's so big, until you try walking towards something... we made that mistake too many times. Needless to say, my legs and feet were killing me the whole week! Such a fabulous experience all around though...

WPPI Las Vegas|Red Rock Canyon!

Eric and I just got home the other day from our very first ever trip to Las Vegas and WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International). And it was fabulous! We really had no idea what to truly expect... from the city or the convention... but we had the time of our lives and came home super excited and definitely inspired! We cannot wait to finalize all our new ideas and show them to you. I'm still totally overwhelmed with all the incredible speakers we heard and the ideas they shared. All I can say we have some amazing things in the works!

Anyway... the last day of our trip we were able to head out of the city and visit Red Rock Canyon. It's gorgeous!! Eric is dying to go back and spend an entire day hiking and climbing (and shooting, of course!). We didn't have a lot of time, but enjoyed seeing another one of God's great and beautiful creations. Here's just a few shots from the evening...

Just after Christmas, Eric and I had the pleasure of shooting Sherry and Mike's wedding reception. Unfortunately, the church they were married at does not allow photography during the ceremony, so we missed that part. But, their reception was fabulous! They held it at the top floor of the Hyatt in Downtown Louisville, which is a revolving restaurant. With a fantastic view of the city, I might add. Here are a few favorites...

As promised... the second part of Katie and Paul's trash the dress session. After we got kicked out of Bernheim Forest (we had no idea they closed the park so early in the fall), we headed down to Main Street in Downtown Louisville. It was dark by the time we got there, but still managed to get some great photos. It's hard not to with such a great looking couple!

Katie and Paul are fabulous. They are such a fun loving, easy going couple; a joy to be around. Eric and I have truly enjoyed working with them this year, shooting both their engagement session and wedding in the past several months. So, when they asked us to photograph them yet again, we were thrilled! While their wedding was phenomenal and unlike any other we've seen, it was the same as most in this respect.... we didn't have much time with just the two of them. This is why I think post-wedding bridal sessions and "trash the dress" sessions are such an amazing idea. The four of us met at Bernheim Forest on a lovely fall day when the leaves were at their peak in color, and we spent the afternoon chatting and shooting, on no one's time but our own. We LOVE such relaxed sessions! So much so that we go a little overboard :) Here are just a few of my favorites from the first part of our session.... enjoy!

Isn't Katie's dress fantastic?? I love how simple yet stunning it is. And it came from the most fabulous dress shop around... the Couture Closet!

Paul couldn't help himself... he had two professional photographers there just for them, and he still pulled out his iPhone to grab some shots :)

Sarah and Billy|Maternity!

I am so excited to have had the opportunity to photograph Sarah and Billy's maternity session! They hold a special place in my heart since we shot their beautiful wedding last year, and I am so thrilled for them during this time! Sarah and Billy have decorated the most adorable nursery, so we spent a good amount of time in it. We then headed out to downtown Frankfort (close to their home) to get some fun shots as well. Here are a few favorites...

Sarah and Gant|The Wedding!!

I cannot even begin to describe how fabulous Sarah and Gant's wedding was! We LOVED it! For starters, they had a small ceremony at the most adorable stone chapel ever (Harrods Creek Baptist Church). It has tons of big windows and bright red shutters, and is very "country" feeling. The ceremony music was perfect... two guys playing bluegrass music! Loved it!! Gant's family has owned a farm here in Kentucky for the past 200 years, and Sarah and Gant decided to take on the incredible task of cleaning out the old tobacco barn on the farm for their reception. I can honestly say I had no idea a barn reception could look so amazing! It was phenomenal. And they put so much thought into all the details. For instance, they were engaged on Derby Day, which ties into the barn reception. And they used horse shoes from Churchill Downs for the place cards, and they cut Derby Pie rather than a cake. I was blown away by it all. Check out a "few" favorites from the day...

Michelle and JC | Engagement!

Have I ever told you that I LOVE shooting engagement sessions?? It's true :) They are so relaxed, which lets us just have fun and be creative, without worrying about much at all. Not to mention, we get to spend a couple of hours getting to know our couples before their big day, which is truly priceless. That's why our wedding coverage automatically includes an engagement session... for everyone!

Anyway, we recently had the pleasure of shooting Michelle and JC's engagement photos. I met Michelle last year at a wedding which she was helping coordinate for a friend, and I asked her if she'd be interested in helping me with my own wedding. Luckily, she agreed, and my wedding ran incredibly smoothly thanks to her! She has such a sweet personality and I just adore her! So, when JC proposed to her, I was so excited that she asked Eric and I to be her photographers! JC is an avid golfer, so he made the brilliant suggestion to go to Audobon Country Club. It's absolutely beautiful there! We jumped in a couple golf carts and just started driving around the course, stopping whenever one of us saw something amazing. Shellie and Adam | Engagement

Eric and I are so excited to be Shellie and Adam's photographer. Their wedding isn't until next October, but we can't wait! They are so fun and extremely laid back... just wanting to have a good time! So, for their engagement session, Shellie and Adam decided to do just that. We met them at a park that Shellie went to a lot as a child, and after we did all the "normal stuff", they just had fun on the playground and tossing the football around while we kept taking pictures. We really enjoyed hanging out with them, and can't wait to show you the wedding photos next year!

Sydney|Senior Portraits!

I had the pleasure of shooting the first round of Sydney's senior portraits the other day... we're planning a second session, so there will be more to share soon! We started out at the unique Mellwood Art Center, and then headed over to River Road where there is an awesome historic front of a house (yes, just the front!) and some railroad tracks. I loved the variety she chose, and she had the perfect outfit for each setting! Sydney is an incredibly beautiful girl, and is so much fun to be around! Katie and Paul|The Wedding!!

Last weekend Eric and I had the pleasure of photographing Katie and Paul's incredible wedding. Katie and Paul are such amazing people, with a strong love for each other and for their family and friends that just radiates from them. And they are so fun and easy-going. We love being around people like them! But, back to the wedding... We met Katie and her mom and sister at Raindog's Salon on Bardstown Road to get a few shots of their lovely up-do's in the making. Then, we headed to the fabulous Yew Dell Gardens in Crestwood where the ceremony and reception took place. It was pretty much non-stop shooting from then on, since there were so many gorgeous details and a fantastic group of guests! After the ceremony, Eric was able to cover the cocktail reception by the castle while I took care of the formal portraits, and then we both enjoyed watching and photographing the party!

Meghan | Senior Portraits!

I had an incredible time photographing Meghan's senior portraits this past Saturday at the beautiful historic Locust Grove. Meghan is such a fun and outgoing girl, and not to mention gorgeous... I think we talked more than we photographed! She chose Locust Grove because she volunteers there, and because she loves being outdoors. She's very active in environmental clubs, so we made sure that we took a fun "tree-hugger" photo! Locust Grove is full of interesting buildings and surrounded by natural beauty; truly a great place for photos!

Jessica and Greg | The Wedding!!

So, I'm a bit behind on posting... but I am so excited to share a few of my favorite images from Jessica and Greg's wedding in June. We met up with Jessica at Bacco's Salon on Bardstown Road for some getting ready shots, then headed out to the ceremony and reception site. They had an incredibly unique and very intimate ceremony at Bernheim Forest, at which only their closest friends and family were present. Each guest had a chance to participate by speaking words of love and encouragement to Jessica and Greg, as they placed a symbolic blade of grass into a bowl with the rings. It was a HOT, but gorgeous day! And Jessica and Greg both looked amazing! Eric and I truly enjoyed being a part of and capturing the story of such an incredible couple's wedding day.

Sarah and Gant | Engagement

I was excited about Sarah and Gant's wedding the first time I met them, but after the incredible engagement session we had, I really can't wait for it! They are having a country wedding (which you'll see in a few months), so they decided to go the urban/industrial route for their engagement photos. We started out in Butchertown, and then headed closer in to Downtown Louisville to an area I never even knew existed. Eric and I had a great time shooting and getting to know them. And I truly love all their photos, so I had a really hard time narrowing it down to a "few favorites"...

Sharon and John | the Wedding!

Sharon and John were married at the gorgeous Olmsted, which is a perfect place to have both a ceremony and reception. The building is beautiful, the grounds are just as pretty, and the food is amazing! And to top it all off, the couple had their adorable Jack Russel, Conor, there to celebrate with them! Jessica | Senior Portraits

I had a blast shooting Jessica's senior portraits. She's such a fun girl, and was great in front of the camera! I love when my clients love having me photograph them... it just makes everything more fun! (not to mention it goes a lot smoother!) We started out at Mellwood Art Center to get a few graffiti shots, then headed to the old part of Main Street in Downtown Louisville to continue with the same urban atmosphere. We also shot a portion of her photos at her barn with her horse, which I loved! And since horses are such a big part of her life, it only made sense to include them. Ripa, her horse, is adorable... but practically refuses to keep her ears forward for a photo! We caught it a few times though :)

The Couture Closet

As some of you know, I've had a mini-studio space at the Couture Closet in LaGrange, KY, for the past few months. Lauren and Tera are amazing girls to be around, and are running a fabulous business! If you haven't been in to check out their incredible bridal gowns yet, please do! They even just started carrying a private collection, meaning you can't find those dresses anywhere else. So, if you're searching for the perfect (and unique) dress, it's worth the trip!

Anyway, I recently did some photography for their website, and wanted to share a few of my favorite shots from the session. We had a couple of gorgeous girls offer their time to model a few dresses for us. Let me know what you think!

Dolphins!!

Wow, it's been way too long since I posted anything! Life is crazy busy! I've been working almost nonstop, except for our recent week at the beach! We go to Gulf Shores, Alabama, every other summer for our family reunion, and I'm 100% convinced that we have the BEST family reunion ever :) Anyway, this year, my mom, dad, sister and I all went on a dolphin cruise, which was incredible! I expected to be out on the boat for a while and just watch the dolphins swim around, but no... it was so much better! We had two boats go out in different directions from the marina, and when our boat found some dolphins, the other boat came to where we were. They positioned the two boats on either side of the dolphins, and then took off, creating a huge wake in between us. A group of three dolphins played in the wake forever! Once they get in it, it pulls them along, so they do not have to exert any energy to keep up. So... they just jump and roll and dive and have a blast! Oh, and if you can see the pink on their stomachs... that's like blushing when they get excited. Who knew?
